Almaty, Kazakhstan, 13-14 September 2012
A High-level thematic meeting on international trade, trade facilitation and aid-for-trade was held on 13-14 September 2012, hosted by the Government of Kazakhstan in Almaty, as part of the preparatory process for the United Nations Comprehensive 10-year Review Conference on the implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action to be convened in 2014.
The thematic meeting substantively assessed the progress achieved in the implementation of the Almaty Porgramme priority area #3 on international trade and trade facilitation. It examined the major achievements and constraints experienced and deliberated on future actions needed to enhance the participation of landlocked developing countries in the international trading system while further strengthening the global partnership for establishing efficient transit transport systems.
The Thematic Meeting elected H.E. Mrs. Zhanar Aitzhanova, Minister of Economic Integration of Kazakhstan, as Chairperson. The heads of delegation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Turkey were elected as Vice-Chairmen. The head of delegation of Italy was elected as Vice-Chair cum Rapporteur.
On 14 September 2012, the meeting adopted a Chaiperson’s Summary containing recommendations in the area of international trade, trade facilitation and aid for trade that will provide substantive inputs to the preparations for the Comprehensive 10-year Review Conference and its outcome.
